With more than 35 years of professional experience, he has provided technical leadership, advisory services, research, training, and project support to governments, universities, international organizations, development agencies, NGOs, and private sector institutions.

Government Leadership

Director General, National Range Management Program

Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Sudan (1981–1987)

Professor Mustafa Suliman provided national leadership for Sudan’s Range Management Program. His achievements included the planning and establishment of six national range reserves, formulation and implementation of community-based anti-desertification projects, and development of national awareness programs on drought preparedness, environmental protection, and sustainable rangeland management.

Director General, Rehabilitation Program

Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), Sudan (1987–1991)

As Director General of the Rehabilitation Program, Professor Suliman led initiatives focused on food security, disaster preparedness, drought response, environmental rehabilitation, and community resilience in drought-prone and vulnerable rural areas.

Regional Leadership

Coordinator, Environment and Natural Resources Research Program

Pastoral and Environmental Network in the Horn of Africa (PENHA) (1996–1999)

Based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Professor Suliman coordinated regional research programs involving universities, research institutions, and development organizations across Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Somalia, Djibouti, and Eritrea. The program focused on pastoral development, environmental protection, natural resource management, and sustainable livelihoods.

Faculty of Forestry and Range Science · Upper Nile University, South Sudan (1994–2010)

Professor Suliman played a leading role in establishing and developing the Faculty of Forestry and Range Science. He designed academic curricula, taught undergraduate and graduate courses, supervised MSc and PhD research, and contributed significantly to capacity building and professional training in natural resource management, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
